London Garden

Walthamstow

After years of experimenting with what plants could handle the shade and surprisingly dense surrounding trees to this terraced garden, a full reimagining of the space has created a multi-functional extension of the family home.

The design considers views from the house windows, a journey and moments along the way, architctural elements which play with light, and draw you out. Roughly split into a day garden which is basked in light, with patch of lawn for a picnic blanket, and an evening garden at the back to enjoy the golden hour of the sunset, a boardwalk links the two spaces with lush woodland planting in the dappled shade.

Reclaimed bricks form a patio to draw you out, with steel edging at carefully placed angles to provide a boundary between the lush planting, and open space. The new garden has refreshed our love for our outdoor space and sparked a keen interest in gardening for the whole family. This garden inspired us to create E17OpenGardens, to share the transformation that a garden can bring to your home.
