‘Room 2’ Garden

This generous garden sits behind a ground floor flat, with a sunny patio opening onto lawn framed by mature trees. Full of potential, the brief was simple: create an inviting outdoor room for barbecues, games, and long summer evenings with friends — while retaining space for a small woodworking workshop and bike shed.

With the client’s connections to the arts, the space could host after-parties, or small events.. perhaps earning an official name as an annex to other venues, ‘Room 2’.

The concept organises the garden into clear zones, drawing people down from the patio through refreshed planting and into a defined social space.

Rather than a single construction project, the design is conceived as a phased, DIY-friendly transformation. The concept stage provides a clear framework, outline cost guidance, and a practical manual with supplier recommendations — allowing the garden to evolve over time, as and when priorities and budget allow.
