Our Services

At Fourfold Design, every project starts with listening — to your home, your needs, and your ambitions. Whether you're planning a full renovation, exploring early ideas, or looking for clarity before a big decision, we’re here to guide you with creativity and experience.

Home alterations come in all shapes and sizes — and so do the ways we can help. From early-stage advice to full design and construction support, we’ll tailor our services to suit your project. We offer focused design studies (like kitchens, bathrooms or furniture layouts), interior design, garden design, or a one-off ‘Napkin Sketch’ studies for work you are considering doing, or ‘Project MOT’ to review ongoing work.

In terms of a renovation or extension project, here’s how a typical design journey unfolds:

Concept Design

Before you embark on a build project, we help you take a step back and see the full potential of your home: what’s working, what’s missing, and how it could evolve. Together, we create a clear, flexible masterplan that supports your needs now and sets you up for the future, with a close eye on the budget.

Through drawings, models, and visual references, we’ll guide you through layout options, materials, and massing, helping you make confident, informed decisions.

  • This is where ideas take shape. We start by getting to know you, your space, and your goals. We make a site visit to understand how you use your space and what you’d like to change.

We’ll carry out a measured survey (or organise one) and prepare an Initial Briefing Pack — a shared foundation for design.

  • Next, we explore the big moves: what’s possible with your space? We test a range of configurations, always with your needs and priorities at the centre. Plans are presented alongside reference imagery to help you imagine each option. Often, the final design is a hybrid — the best parts of several ideas, combined and refined.

  • Once we’ve landed on a layout, we begin to shape the project in three dimensions. This is when it starts to feel real. We’ll develop visualisations and explore material palettes that align with the feel and character you’re after — indoors and out.

Planning & Approvals

We know how to navigate planning policy, including in Conservation Areas or on sensitive sites. We’ll prepare a clear, robust submission for the local authority and handle all the necessary drawings and documents to give your project the best chance of success.

Technical Design

With the concept in place, we get into the detail — turning ideas into clear, buildable information. This phase is about accuracy, coordination, and care. It’s where we refine every decision, collaborate with other consultants, and prepare tender information for contractors.

  • We test the finer points — from material junctions to kitchen layouts. Every element is developed with thought and clarity. By the end of this stage, you’ll know exactly how each part of your project will come together.

  • We bring in the right expertise — from structural engineers to building inspectors — and begin liaising with contractors to test budget and timelines. If your project involves a Party Wall Agreement or Build-Over Application, we’ll also manage the information needed for these.

  • With the detailed design complete, we help you obtain competitive quotations from a shortlist of trusted contractors. We manage the tender process — reviewing each submission, responding to contractor queries, and producing a clear, side-by-side comparison of costs, timelines, and assumptions.

We also provide a tailored budget tracking document, designed to help you stay in control of your project finances from day one. This tool gives you a clear breakdown of estimated costs, allowances, and contingencies — and becomes a useful reference throughout the build, enabling better decision-making and cost monitoring along the way.

Construction

We stay closely involved during construction to help bring the design to life — and to protect the quality, budget, and ambition of the project. We work hand-in-hand with your contractor, providing quick answers, detailed solutions, and regular site presence.

  • We make frequent site visits and stay in close contact with everyone involved — always looking ahead to avoid delays, solve problems creatively, and ensure the work reflects the intent of the design. We act as your advocate throughout the build, helping to keep things on track and on budget.

Other Ways We Can Help

Not every project follows the full design-to-build journey. We offer a range of focused, flexible services to suit where you are — whether you're planning ahead, mid-build, or simply testing out an idea.

  • We offer garden design as part of a full renovation or as a standalone service. With two complete garden transformations under our belt — in both London and the Isle of Wight — we bring first-hand experience, a love of planting, and a strong sense of indoor–outdoor flow.

We also collaborate with a trusted network of landscape designers to peer-review and refine ideas where needed.

  • Looking at a new home and wondering what’s possible? Or just moved in and not sure where to start? Our design review service offers an expert, no-pressure overview of your property’s potential — including site constraints, planning context, likely build costs, and design opportunities.

Essential pre or post purchase design advice to support a big decision.

  • Kitchens and bathrooms are some of the hardest-working spaces in any home. We offer fast-turnaround design studies for these key areas — focusing on layout, materials, lighting, and functionality. You'll also get clear guidance on budgeting and product selection to help you move from concept to completion with confidence.

  • If you already have a design in mind, but need help preparing and submitting a planning application, we can take care of that. We’ll turn your ideas into the right set of drawings and documents, and guide the submission through to approval.

  • If your project is already underway — or paused — and something doesn’t feel quite right, we can step in. Whether your builder is asking overly technical questions, or the drawings you’ve been given are unclear or incomplete, we’ll review what you have, identify any gaps, and provide practical guidance to help get things back on track.
